Portu close to returning: could be back for Girona vs Cádiz

Portu is edging toward a comeback for Girona after getting through recovery from a major knee problem. As reported by MARCA, the forward has overcome the injury and, after 10 months, is close to making Quique Álvarez’ next squad for the Saturday match against Cádiz.

Recovery and feeling

Speaking to Girona’s media, Portu sounded optimistic about his progress: “Me encuentro cada día mejor, estoy cogiendo sensaciones con el equipo y haciendo todo el trabajo con el grupo.” He also underlined the team’s mindset: “El equipo está bien… estamos unidos y volvemos a ser una familia.”

Waiting for the call-up

His layoff came after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, on 19 November 2025. In that time, he admitted frustration at watching Girona drop to Segunda without being able to help: “Se echa de menos competir cada fin de semana…”

Pushing for the goal

Portu also stressed his main ambition: “Mi objetivo número uno es volver al Girona donde merece y lo daré todo… hasta que no pueda más.” With 197 LaLiga appearances for the club, he is Girona’s eleventh most-capped player in this period.

Per MARCA, the plan now is to keep the recovery steady and confirm he’s ready to compete at the required level, giving Girona a potential lift in a demanding league push.
