Quique Sánchez Flores fumes after Alavés held 1-1 by Málaga
The Alavés coach criticized his side’s ball management after a 1-1 draw, saying the response only came in the last 15 minutes.
Alavés head coach Quique Sánchez Flores left Mendizorroza angry after the Alavés 1-1 Málaga draw, believing his team’s response arrived too late. The manager lamented that the last-period reaction didn’t come earlier, and summed it up with a clear message: “we go off upset.”
“We didn’t play the match we wanted. We started well, but we accumulated too many losses,” he said. He also blamed the pressure of playing the ball and noted that, after a first half where they were “far away” from what they imagined, they only got going when they changed their system—yet not until the final stretch.
Late reaction and mistakes
Sánchez Flores stressed that the team didn’t find itself “until the last 15 minutes,” calling it their worst game of the season: “A match like this, we haven’t done all season.” He argued that once the errors began without the opponent creating much, they were left exposed.
The coach added that the whole group is upset: “We’ve been giving away a lot of things,” and they ran out of time to do what they intended. “We rescued the last 15 minutes,” he concluded.
