Quique Sánchez Flores rues Alavés’ Vigo return without points

The Alavés coach called it their best away performance of the season, but two goals and Radu’s stops cost them.

Quique Sánchez Flores, Alavés’ head coach, left Vigo with nothing on the scoreboard after a defeat at Balaídos despite producing a strong attacking display. The coach called it the best away match of the season, praising how his side managed the ball against a Celta Vigo team that at home “usually overwhelms” opponents, according to MARCA.

“We lacked effectiveness”

In his assessment, Quique said: “We played a great game… I think we made the best away performance of the season.” He also stressed that they barely faced shots on goal, yet still couldn’t turn their chances into goals.

20 shots and two defensive moments

He pointed to their volume of play: “We completed 20 shots.” He accepted that they went off their plan for “six or seven minutes” and were punished with two local goals, blaming “softness” in defending those moments. He added that Radu’s two big saves sealed the result and kept Alavés from earning any points.
