Raíllo takes on the mission of returning Mallorca to LaLiga

Raíllo, Mallorca’s captain, spoke at Son Moix ahead of a match to take stock of the team’s start in LaLiga Hypermotion and set the tone for the campaign. In his view, the opening has been good, but there’s still room for improvement: he insists that winning matches matters, and that the division is tougher than it can look from the outside.

The centre of his argument is the team’s defensive solidity. Raíllo points out that Mallorca has kept five clean sheets in the first six league games, and believes that this kind of stability makes everything else easier. If you don’t concede and you execute well going forward, it’s far more likely you leave with points.

Relationship with Luis García

Asked about his relationship with Luis García, Raíllo says he has full trust in the coach “from day one”. He adds that, although some may think he’s angry or criticising, what happens is more about demanding and improving: they talk about what can be better. Raíllo also claims both share the same goal—what’s best for the team.

He also believes the squad is well built and balanced, with options and different playing styles that allow the coach to adapt from one match to the next.

Personal duty and future

Raíllo addresses his future too, stressing that his first option is the club. He says his connection with Pablo Ortells goes beyond the professional side, describing it as friendship. Still, he admits that in football offers can appear, and that if they suit everyone, the situation would have to be discussed.

When the conversation turns to promotion, he frames it as more than a collective target. He says he feels a personal “duty” to return Mallorca to LaLiga, explaining that leaving the club in Segunda after years in the top flight hurt him. He wants to finish by leaving Mallorca in a better place than when he arrived, citing the role that a previous relegation played in resetting the club’s unity—exactly as MARCA reports.
