Rayo Vallecano and Athletic: match could resume behind closed doors
The game is suspended after paper plane incidents and may restart this Sunday with no fans, per Liga and RFEF.
Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Club have their match suspended and the next step is deciding when it will resume and under what conditions. As MARCA reports, the working idea is that the game could be played this Sunday behind closed doors in Vallecas, though security could also lead to it being moved to another venue in the Madrid region.
The suspension was issued following police recommendation after the paper-plane incident, as the Rayo Vallecano said. Sporting justice will now rule once the match report is reviewed, with the act penned by referee Sánchez Martínez likely to shape the disciplinary outcomes.
Waiting on Liga and RFEF
The local side expects a fine and further penalties, such as partial stand closure or even a full stadium ban. Liga condemned "this type of behaviour" in a statement.
For Athletic, it’s also the second suspended game this early season. They were unable to play against Levante due to heavy rain, and that fixture will be recovered on October 21. After Friday’s developments, the Athletic party returned to the hotel while Liga and RFEF await their official decision.
