Real Madrid beat Espanyol 3-1 and underline their scoring power

Liga F matchday 7: Däbritz (45’) at the break, plus goals by Beerensteyn and Schröder, sealed the 3-1.

Real Madrid beat Espanyol 3-1 at the Alfredo Di Stéfano in Liga F matchday 7, turning the game with goals before and after halftime. Däbritz (45’) made it 1-0, Beerensteyn (70’) added the second, and Schröder (80’) put the tie to bed—though Bicho (90’) pulled one back.

The return to league action after the international break came with the sting of a 7-0 defeat at the Camp Nou and boos directed at Pau Quesada when her name was announced. On the pitch, Espanyol threatened early through Browne, but the home side took control and found the opener on the stroke of the break: Däbritz’s corner delivery (“poisoned” cross) went straight into the net.

Goals decide after the break

Schröder was introduced in the 60’ and helped freshen up the attack, while Beerensteyn made the difference after the hour. She capitalised on a poor pass back from Bicho, dribbled the keeper and finished into an empty goal for 2-0. Later, María Méndez’s high recovery set up the move that led to Schröder’s 3-0, before Andreia Jacinto’s defensive slip allowed Espanyol’s Bicho to score the 3-1 late on.

There was also concern when Linda Caicedo suffered a heavy knee-to-knee collision in the 21’ minute but was able to return to the action. Ágata López (C. Canarias) officiated, and the match included bookings for M. Méndez, Linda C., Mar Torras and Raquel G.
