Real Madrid: Mourinho weighs Rüdiger vs Huijsen for the Clásico

The Real Madrid travel to Spotify Camp Nou on October 25 and Mourinho has a decision to make at the back next to Konaté.

Real Madrid head to Spotify Camp Nou this Sunday, October 25 for the season’s first Clásico, and Mourinho is still fine-tuning his starting XI with a fresh doubt at centre-back: Konaté is expected to start, but the coach must choose between Antonio Rüdiger and Youssef Huijsen.

Ahead of the match (21:00 on DAZN), the right-back spot looks set to go to Federico Valverde. In midfield, Aurélien Tchouaméni appears set to start, with Arda Güler the frontrunner to partner him, although Bernardo Silva and Camavinga are also in the mix—especially after Camavinga’s chances reportedly improved in recent hours.

The other decision

For the central pairing, Mourinho is weighing two different profiles: Rüdiger brings more of a “big-game” security, but his physical condition—particularly his knee—could affect his performance. Huijsen offers better build-up and passing, yet he can be caught too easily behind and struggles more against direct, pacey forwards.

Mourinho will therefore decide whether to opt for Rüdiger’s experience or Huijsen’s ball-playing to go after the win at the Camp Nou, according to Mundo Deportivo.
