Real Sociedad are fifth after scoring 16 points from last 21
La Real climbed after beating Malaga and overtaking Sevilla, with five wins, one draw and one loss in seven games.
Real Sociedad finished matchday nine in fifth place after collecting 16 points from their last 21 available, and overtook Sevilla following the latter’s loss at the Bernabéu, according to MARCA.
The txuriurdin side used a home win over the bottom team, Malaga, to keep momentum: it’s their fifth victory in the last seven league games. During that stretch they didn’t just jump past teams above them, they also moved ahead of Sevilla, which had been in fifth.
The surge has been built over seven rounds, where they’ve earned 16 points thanks to five wins, one draw and only one defeat. Other direct Europa contenders dropped less, including Villarreal (nine fewer points), Sevilla (eight), Athletic Club (seven) and Celta Vigo (six).
