Real Sociedad as Europa Cup top seed: 8 possible Round of 16 rivals
The draw for the Round of 16 and the path to the final starts at 13:00, with the Real avoiding top seeds like Wolfsburg and Eintracht.
Real Sociedad will be in the pot as a top seed (7th by coefficient) this Friday after knocking out Hearts in the Europa Cup, and from 13:00 they’ll learn their Round of 16 opponents plus where the ties will be played for each leg. Mundo Deportivo reports that, thanks to that seeding, the Real will avoid in the Round of 16 Wolfsburg, Eintracht, Hammarby, Sparta Prague, Brann, Ajax and Rosenborg, and they’ll also be kept apart from the Norwegian teams.
The Round of 16 options
The eight realistic rivals in the Round of 16, ranked by coefficient, are Torreense, Spartak Myjava, Malmö, PSV, Feyenoord, Brøndby, Fenerbahçe and Czarni.
For the next set of ties, Real know they’ll face the winner of the Wolfsburg vs Eintracht elimination. The Round of 16 is scheduled for 28-29 October and 10-11 November, the quarter-finals for 3-4 and 10-11 February, the semi-finals for 23-24 and 31-1 March and April, and the final for 1-2 and 8-9 May.
