Real Sociedad matches Real Madrid with record 0-6 win in Europa League
The away 0-6 triumph over Lillestrøm matches Spain’s historical benchmark outside home, previously held only by the Real Madrid.
Real Sociedad made Europa League history after routing Lillestrøm 0-6 at Arasen Stadion, a result that ties the club’s own international record and had been intact for nine years, according to Mundo Deportivo.
To find a similar 0-6, you have to go back to October 2017, also in the group stage of the Europa League. That night, the Basque side beat Vardar Skopje 0-6 with goals from Willian José, Mikel Oyarzabal and the finish by Alberto de la Bella.
The impact goes beyond the scoreline: across European competitions, only Real Madrid and Real Sociedad have managed to win away by six goals or more on more than one occasion. The Madrid wins came in September 1978 (0-7 vs Progrès Niederkorn) and November 2017 (0-6 vs Apoel Nicosia). Since October 22, 2026, Real Sociedad shares that exclusive record thanks to its performances in Skopje and Lillestrøm.
