Real Sociedad steps up on set pieces with Maisano and Toprak

La Real Sociedad have made a clear leap in set pieces this season, with Jon Martín opening the scoring in the 1-0 win over Deportivo last Sunday. It was his first goal of the campaign and the third headed strike for the txuri urdin: a short corner between Soler and Guedes, followed by a perfect cross to the second post for the “6” to finish unmarked.

As Mundo Deportivo points out, the current leads are John Maisano on the attacking side and Omer Toprak on the defensive one, after Zubieta’s reshuffle of responsibilities. The numbers back it up: three LaLiga goals from corners and no goals conceded, giving them a +3 that tops the league ranking, ahead of the +1 held by several clubs.

The report also confirms Beñat Beitia was injured during the training session after the game and will be ruled out.
