Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea referees Betis-Barça with Del Cerro VAR
FC Barcelona head to Real Betis for matchday 9: de Burgos Bengoetxea leads, with Carlos del Cerro Grande in the VOR/VAR on DAZN.
Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea will be the head referee for Betis-Barça in LaLiga’s matchday 9, with Carlos del Cerro Grande handling the VOR VAR booth. Kick-off is at 18:30, with DAZN broadcasting.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça arrive with a record under the Bilbao referee of 29 wins, one draw and five losses, while Betis have 17 wins, six draws and ten losses.
De Burgos Bengoetxea also brings a Barcelona link: he officiated the 2025 Copa del Rey final at the Cartuja, where Barça beat Real Madrid 3-2 in extra time, with controversial moments including a foul by Valverde on Cubarsí in the box and a penalty to Raphinha that was ruled out, plus a pre-match press conference where the referee broke down after citing criticism from Real Madrid TV.
Carlos del Cerro Grande has been in the spotlight for Barça in recent seasons too: in 2024 Barça lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad after a Lewandowski goal was disallowed, and the following season—again at the same ground—an Olmo foul led to Fermín’s goal being cancelled and a tight offside ruled out another Barça strike.
