Robbie Savage appointed Peterborough manager after Luke Williams sacking
Savage signs a “long-term” deal and takes charge for the first time on 6 October vs Ipswich Town Under-21s.
Robbie Savage has been appointed Peterborough United manager, replacing Luke Williams after the 19 September sacking. Peterborough sit 23rd in League One following a poor start.
Savage’s move brings his first job in the EFL. He led Forest Green Rovers to seventh in the National League last season, though they lost in the play-off eliminators. This term they are 13th after 11 games (four wins, three draws and four defeats). He will start with Peterborough on 6 October in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy against Ipswich Town Under-21s, before the league resumes with a trip to his former club Leicester on 10 October.
The 51-year-old said he was drawn to “the size of the club, the philosophy, working with young players and making them better”. He also pledged an attacking approach, adding: “if we are 1-1 at home with five minutes to go, I want my teams to go for the winner.” Chair Darragh MacAnthony described the appointment as a jolt of excitement, saying the board was impressed by Savage in an “extensive interview” and his hunger to get the squad running again.
