Rodrigo Ely (Almeria) back in hospital for arthritis in right ankle

UD Almeria says this Tuesday that Rodrigo Ely has had to return to Vithas Hospital due to the arthritis affecting his right ankle. The reason is that his progress after last week’s hospital discharge hasn’t matched what doctors expected.

Ely left the hospital on Wednesday to continue care at home with oral medication. However, during a check on Monday, the medical staff found the joint was not improving at the expected pace and chose to restart intravenous therapy, which can only be given in hospital.

The club is keen to sound a note of calm: specialists believe high-grade arthritis recovery is usually slow and step-by-step. Tests carried out over recent weeks also ruled out bone issues, ankle sprains and ligament damage. The trigger for the condition hasn’t been fully clarified, as doctors describe it as multifactorial. Ely, meanwhile, has already spent 11 days in hospital across the two admissions and is pushing to return to García Pimienta’s squad, according to MARCA.
