Rodrigo Ely undergoes ankle surgery after high-grade arthritis
Almería’s centre-back had an arthroscopy for high-grade inflammatory arthritis; his return will hinge on his ankle’s progress.
Rodrigo Ely, Almería’s centre-back, has undergone an ankle arthroscopy at Hospital Vithas after high-grade inflammatory arthritis kept him admitted to hospital. As reported by MARCA, the operation was carried out by doctor Claudio Vázquez and went normally, with the player in good condition.
The surgery comes after a tough medical run over the past few weeks due to the issue in his right ankle. Ely spent several days in hospital for intravenous treatment and a series of tests aimed at ruling out other, more serious conditions. He has accumulated around twenty days in hospital across both admissions. Almería is still cautious and has not confirmed whether the arthritis is infectious or rheumatic, so no return date has been set yet.
