Roy Keane says Man Utd are in “chaos” after Lisandro outburst

Lisandro Martínez hit out at the club after a 2-0 Atletico loss; Roy Keane compares it to “a circus”.

Roy Keane, the former Manchester United captain, has described the club as “chaos” after defender Lisandro Martínez criticised the club’s hierarchy. The comments follow Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, a result that stretched United’s winless run to five matches.

Speaking on The Overlap, Keane argued that it’s especially combustible when the team is struggling. “Some fans will say it’s great and some will say you’re letting the team down, especially from a player who hasn’t been at his best when the team is struggling,” he said. Keane added: “As a reflection of the club, it’s obviously chaos there, like a bit of a circus.” He also insisted players should look at themselves first before public criticism.

Martínez took to social media on Wednesday, saying he spoke out out of “anger and frustration”. He had previously argued that United didn’t strengthen their squad in the summer after qualifying for the Champions League, including criticism directed at technical director Jason Wilcox. Keane also questioned Martínez’s status, saying he doesn’t see him as a senior figure at United.

Gary Neville agreed there’s a problem, comparing the episode to Wayne Rooney’s 2010 comments among teammates. Neville said it was “a direct attack” on the players, and claimed senior figures would be “absolutely fuming”. United travel to Leeds United in the Premier League this Sunday.
