Rubén de la Barrera deals with eight guaranteed absences vs Mallorca

Rubén de la Barrera, head coach of Las Palmas, heads to Mallorca with eight guaranteed absences and Recoba listed as a doubt. The coach gets Iñaki, Rafa Cruz and Herzog back, but says the squad is still “far from full strength” as he searches for a competitive XI.

For the match, Jesé, Sandro, Marvin, Clemente, Sergio Ruiz, Viti, Cedeño and Ale García will not be available. In defence, De la Barrera said Álex “can help at right-back” and that Valentín is ready to play “on either side of the back line”, even if Pezzolesi’s continued role on the right reduces the options. He also suggested the youth player Adrián is ready to start.

On the injury situation, De la Barrera argued that muscular issues are not the bulk of the problem: “Muscular injuries account for practically nothing of the injury report”, adding that some are “carried over from last year”. He summed up the concern clearly: “The number of absences is huge… it limits everyone”. When asked about possible consequences, he shut down speculation, saying: “We haven’t talked about anything. I care about Sunday’s game.”
