Russo's penalty gives Arsenal derby win and ends winless run
Alessia Russo's spot-kick in the 56th minute gave Arsenal a 2-1 win at Tottenham and lifts them up to sixth in the WSL
Alessia Russo scored the winning penalty in the 56th minute as Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-1 in the north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The win ends a five-game winless run in the Women's Super League and eases the pressure on head coach Renée Slegers, according to Sky Sports.
Tottenham led through Cathinka Tandberg's 13th-minute header, but Georgia Stanway equalised four minutes later. The penalty came after the ball struck substitute Ella Morris's hand in the box, and earlier Lize Kop had denied Russo one-on-one.
Slegers said she was happy for the fans and the players, but warned that the team must back up the result over the next few games. The win takes Arsenal up to sixth in the table.
