Santiago Gonzalvo (Teruel) bets on an upset vs Real Zaragoza

Santiago Gonzalvo, president of CD Teruel, heads into this Sunday’s trip to the Ibercaja Estadio with a clear message: “we can pull off the upset” against Real Zaragoza, even if he describes them as a club from “another level.” He insists it’s not about treating the match as a derby, but as a regional clash where the Teruel’s priority is to go for points for survival.

Gonzalvo highlights the financial gap. He claims Teruel’s squad budget is €1.4m and that it’s the smallest in the division, while the Zaragoza squad budget is around €5m, about three times more. He also recalls the club’s crowdfunded push for player 20, which raised €3,200, and how a remaining amount helped them bring “one more” signing.

On the pitch, he points to scoring problems—especially in attack—and says they’re working to turn the run around. He also stresses his club’s plan to have players train and live in Teruel, noting they have 16 rented apartments for the squad, a change he says was achieved through effort and persistence.
