Sarina Wiegman extends England deal through Euro 2029

The England manager signs a two-year extension, keeping her in charge until after Euro 2029.

England manager Sarina Wiegman has signed a two-year contract extension with the Lionesses, taking her through to the end of Euro 2029, according to BBC Sport.

The 56-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire after next summer’s World Cup, but the new terms extend her stay beyond it. Speaking after the announcement, Wiegman said she “cannot think of a better job in football” and added that working for the FA and with a group focused on winning and growing the game is what drives her.

On the pitch, England’s focus is already on qualification: last week they beat Greece 8-1 on aggregate to reach round two of the World Cup play-offs, where they will face Ukraine. If the Lionesses win that two-legged tie, they will qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Wiegman took over in September 2021, replacing Phil Neville, and has delivered major milestones including the 2-1 Euro 2022 final win over Germany, the 1-0 defeat by Spain in the 2023 World Cup final, and the Euro 2025 final victory over Spain—making England’s first team, men or women, to win a major trophy on foreign soil. FA chief Mark Bullingham said there is “no one better to lead the Lionesses into the next two tournaments”.
