Serdar Gözübüyük to referee Stuttgart vs Atlético in the UCL

This Sunday, UEFA has named Serdar Gözübüyük (40) as the referee for the VfB Stuttgart vs Atlético de Madrid clash at the Arena. Dennis Higler, also from the Netherlands, will handle VAR.

It will be Gözübüyük’s second Champions League match of the season. For Atlético, it’s his fourth European game: the record so far is two wins and one defeat.

The last time came in last season’s round of 16 first leg, when Atlético thrashed Tottenham 5-2 at the Estadio Metropolitano. Before that, on 13 December 2023, also at the Metropolitano, Atlético beat Lazio 2-0 in the group stage. The lone loss was against Benfica, a 4-0 defeat in Da Luz in last season’s league phase.

For Stuttgart, it’s the first time Gözübüyük will take charge of them in European competition, as Mundo Deportivo reports.
