Shai Gilgeous-Alexander joins Atlético de Madrid as shareholder
The NBA star becomes a new investor in the Atlético ownership group and says he’s “excited” about the club’s future.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has joined the group of shareholders of Atlético de Madrid, stepping into club investing as the new backer. As Mundo Deportivo reports, the player said he was thrilled about the move, adding: “Estoy emocionado de unirme oficialmente al grupo de accionistas del Atlético de Madrid.”
He also thanked the club for the chance to be part of the long-term plan: “Este es un club con una larga trayectoria en lo más alto del fútbol europeo, y agradezco la oportunidad de formar parte de su futuro.”
Born in Toronto in 1998 and raised in Hamilton before a season at the University of Kentucky, the Canadian is currently a key figure for the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the 2025/26 season he averaged 31.1 points per game with a 55.3% field-goal rate. He was NBA champion in 2025 and Finals MVP in 2025.
