Simeone drops Koke and recalls Barrios and Sorloth
Atletico’s squad for the Metropolitano clash with Manchester United includes the returns of Barrios and Sorloth after injury spells.
Diego Pablo Simeone, Atlético de Madrid’s coach, named his squad this Tuesday, October 13, for the Metropolitano match against Manchester United: Koke is left out after the death of his mother, Ana Merodio Borja.
The coach largely sticks with the group from the Alavés game, where the returns of Pablo Barrios and Alexander Sorloth were already confirmed following their recoveries from injury. Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero also features after minutes at Mendizorrotza, and the list adds Rodrigo Mendoza and Obed Vargas, who were not called up for the league match.
The rest of the squad includes Jan Oblak, Juan Musso and Salvador Esquivel; Marc Pubill, David Hancko, Alejandro Grimaldo, Dani Martínez, Robin Le Normand and Jorge Domínguez; Jorge Castillo, Obed Vargas, Johnny Cardoso, Morten Hjulmand, Álex Baena and Marcos Llorente; Ademola Lookman, Arnau Ortiz and Giuliano Simeone; and forwards Kang-in Lee, Alexander Sorloth, Jonathan David and Julián Álvarez. Sorloth returns as he is fit from a muscle injury and is back for Champions league selection this season, while Barrios comes in after getting injured shortly before Anfield.
