Sir Alex Ferguson ‘terrified’ after brain haemorrhage as he returned to Old Trafford
The Manchester United legend told BBC Breakfast he feared the reaction after returning four months after emergency surgery in 2018.
Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken to BBC Breakfast about his first return to Old Trafford after suffering a brain haemorrhage in May 2018. The former Manchester United manager admitted he was far from comfortable, saying: “I was terrified”, recalling how he and his wife Cathy sat down in the directors’ box.
The first return after surgery
Four months after emergency surgery, Ferguson was back to watch United play Wolves in the Premier League. Before kick-off, both received a standing ovation, with Cathy “nearly crying” when she saw the crowd’s reaction, calling it “that’s fantastic”.
Now three months short of his 85th birthday, Ferguson also said he is “feeling quite good despite small injuries”. He additionally promoted his new book, Games of My Life, which highlights 21 defining matches from his playing and managerial career.
