Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign Pep Guardiola for Man United
In his book, Ferguson recalls a 2012 New York dinner and how he wished it had happened earlier to pull Guardiola to Manchester.
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed in his book Game of Life that he tried to convince Pep Guardiola to coach Manchester United after the pair shared a dinner in New York in 2012. The Scot says that if the meeting had taken place “a couple of months earlier”, things might have gone differently.
Ferguson adds that, at the time, he hadn’t yet decided to retire. He also notes that Guardiola was focused on trying life in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich after four hugely successful years in LaLiga, including a continental treble plus a League and Champions League double.
He finishes the anecdote with a playful line about rewinding time, pouring Italian wine, and trying his hardest to convince Guardiola that his future lay in Manchester.
