Spanish Segunda bites back: none of the recent dropouts are in direct promotion

According to MARCA, of the nine teams that fell from La Liga in the last three seasons, none are in the top-two after seven matches.

La Segunda is hitting hard against newly demoted teams. After seven matchdays, none of the nine sides that have dropped from La Liga in the last three seasons are in today’s direct promotion spots, according to MARCA.

That group includes Cádiz, Granada and Almería (relegated in 2023-24), plus Leganés, Las Palmas and Valladolid (relegated one year later). It also covers Girona, Oviedo and Mallorca, who arrived this summer.

The pattern is even starker: over the last two years, none of the three teams that had been relegated the season before managed to win promotion.
