Sporting gears up to replace El Molinón turf: after three years
Sporting is investigating the cause of injuries and, with no proven link, will renew the pitch between late October and early November.
Sporting is preparing a change of turf at El Molinón, planned three years after it was last planted, while the club looks for the cause behind its injuries. Sport reports that, internally, the club does not see a direct link with the pitch and there is no study confirming that the condition of the ground has triggered those problems.
Since summer they have been working on an internal review, and over the last few weeks they’ve also been trying to find a company able to cover the full size of the playing surface. The options are limited because several teams have already made similar changes in recent months.
The timetable is set
Against Celta Fortuna, part of the area was transplanted, and Sporting expects to do the same across the rest of the field in the coming weeks. A budget for the required parts was approved days ago, and if everything goes to plan the pitch will be replaced between late October and early November, taking advantage of two straight away matches at Castellón and Ceuta.
