Sporting Gijón beat Cádiz 0-1 thanks to Pablo’s 87th-minute goal

Sporting won 0-1 at JP Financial and move into the promotion spots after Pablo scored in the 87th.

Sporting Gijón picked up three points at JP Financial by beating Cádiz 0-1 on Sunday, with Pablo scoring in the 87th minute. The win puts the Asturians into the promotion places, while Cádiz drop back towards the relegation zone.

The first half ended 0-0. Cádiz tried to control the game, but Sporting’s approach left Albert Celades’ side uncomfortable. Sergio Arribas had an early chance that went wide (13), and Antonio Cordero also fired from the edge of the box, missing by a whisker (30). Later, Vladys Kopotum set up Cordero, whose strike was kept out by Yáñez (66).

After the break the match stayed tight, with both teams cancelling each other out for long stretches. Cádiz pushed in the final stages but couldn’t turn possession into a goal. At 87 minutes, Pablo García beat two defenders, cut inside and finished from outside the reach of David Gil to seal Sporting’s win.
