Sporting vs Celta Fortuna at El Molinón: new reserve-team debut

Sporting host Celta Fortuna at El Molinón for their official meeting after both sides faced each other in preseason. The Vigo reserve side begins the campaign in Segunda División, continuing a trend seen in 21st-century Gijón, with other youth setups like Real Sociedad or Villarreal previously taking the stage.

For Sporting, the yardstick has often been their record in these matchups: they drew away against Málaga B in the early 2000s and in 2012/13 beat Castilla 1-0 at home, before suffering a 3-0 defeat at the Mini Estadi. More recently, they played Real Sociedad B, with Sporting losing 1-0 in Gijón after a 2-1 setback in San Sebastián, and they also faced Villarreal B across the last few seasons.

As Sport notes, this will be the seventh reserve-team club to play at the municipal in Gijón in the 21st century.
