Sunderland held 1-1 by Lech Poznań as Juventus comeback is ruled out
Sunderland’s winning run ends in a 1-1 draw in Poznan: Tutierov opened the scoring before Bengtsson’s reply.
Sunderland had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw away at Lech Poznań, ending their perfect start to the Europa League. The visitors went ahead in the second minute when Nilson Angulo capitalised on a mistake, crossing for Timur Tutierov to nod in for his first goal for the club.
Lech responded in the 70th minute: substitute Leo Bengtsson struck low to level things up, and the game finished goalless after that. Sunderland still created chances to push on, with Malick Fofana hitting the post and Nordi Mukiele forcing Mateusz Lis into a strong save.
Robin Roefs also had to keep his side in it, making a double stop to deny Patrik Wålemark. Later, Roefs was tested again and Sunderland kept pressing, including a late effort that struck the roof of the net from Chris Rigg, but the scoreline stayed at 1-1, as VAR kept Juventus’ late turnaround from being enough in the other game, per The Guardian.
