Szymon Marciniak to referee Liverpool vs Villarreal at Anfield
UEFA has assigned Polish referee Szymon Marciniak for the Champions League clash at Anfield. Villarreal arrive after a 3-1 win over Napoli.
UEFA has named the officials for the third matchday of the Champions League league phase, and Szymon Marciniak will referee Liverpool vs Villarreal at Anfield on Tuesday. Villarreal travel to England after beating Napoli at home 3-1.
It will be the Polish referee’s second Champions League outing of the season, after Porto vs Manchester City. This year, he has taken charge of Liverpool in seven European matches: five wins and two defeats, with no draws. The last time he refereed a Liverpool-Villarreal game at Anfield was last season, when Liverpool won 2-0.
It will be their fourth European meeting. The VAR will be handled by German referee Benjamin Brand.
