Tawanda Chirewa scores as Wolves extend Burnley’s Turf Moor misery

The substitute finds the net within seconds and Wolves win at Burnley, who now have 21 home matches without a win.

Tawanda Chirewa turned the game around at Turf Moor almost instantly after coming on: he replaced Sean Neave in the 72nd minute and scored the winner seconds later from Mateus Mané’s through ball after a heavy touch from Igor Julio. Wolves held on after Burnley had been lifted into trouble by their continued home slump.

Burnley had led through Jamie Vardy’s first goal for the club, before Fer López levelled. The home side couldn’t convert their first-half control, and were hit by a sucker punch when captain Kyle Walker made an error that allowed López to finish an equaliser before the break.

The result makes it 21 matches without a win at Turf Moor for Burnley, whose last league home victory came when they beat Leeds on 18 October. Burnley boss Nicky Hayen said he would not give up and pointed to the mistake just before half-time that gave Wolves momentum.
