Terzic calls Rego a “hybrid”: played the full 90 at Anoeta

Athletic coach Terzic looked over the Anoeta derby versus Real Sociedad where Rego got league minutes he hadn’t had recently, completing 90 minutes after six league rounds without stepping off the bench.

The midfielder split the match across two roles. In the first half he lined up in the “engine room” alongside Prados, and in the second he moved back into the defensive line. Terzic defended the switch, saying: “In midfield and in the centre of defence we’ve got many players. We see Rego as a hybrid who can play in both areas because with the ball he handles himself well, and we’ve seen him win duels both in the air and on the ground”.

He added that, offensively, the change “doesn’t alter things that much”, because when Rego shifts into the back line he is “the man in the middle of the three centre-backs”. Terzic noted that in Liga Rego still hadn’t had chances in either defence or midfield, despite being used in that system during pre-season. The only Athletic outfield player named in the matchday squad who didn’t play was Galarreta, while goalkeeper Simón García warmed up but didn’t take the field. Terzic summed it up with his main message: “The most important thing is that he played the full ninety minutes”.
