Thomas Tuchel reignites belief in England after 7-0 Croatia win

England delivered a statement performance under Thomas Tuchel: a 7-0 win over Croatia on Saturday that helps restore confidence in his project after the World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina.

Tuchel acknowledged the emotional impact of that setback: “We will always have a scar, we will always feel pain and disappointment. But this is the way to move forward.” He also pointed to how the defeat will linger, saying it will hang over the team “right through until the Euros in 2028”.

The scoreline was also a landmark for Croatia: it was their heaviest-ever defeat, surpassing the previous best away-to-them tally of four. The manager contrasted it with earlier Nations League outings—positives versus Spain were muted by defensive mistakes, while the Czech Republic win was affected by a first-half red card.
