Tonda Eckert: suspended ban allows him to keep coaching at Southampton
The FA keeps him eligible until the end of 2027/28 and fines him £28,000 for Spygate after his six-week ban was overturned.
Tonda Eckert is allowed to continue as Southampton manager after his six-week suspension over the Spygate case was overturned. The sanction is now suspended until the end of the 2027/28 season and, in addition, he received a £28,000 fine and a reprimand, as Fabrizio Romano reports.
Eckert missed last season’s Championship play-off final because of the case. At the hearing, the FA’s independent commission said he secretly watched training sessions involving Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
Spygate consequences reduced
The commission described the operation as a calculated plan run from the top and authorized by Eckert. Its starting point was a four-month ban and a £75,000 fine, but his contrition and the reduction for admitting the charges cut it down to six weeks—and it will only become active again if Eckert and the club commit further spying.
