Toni Martínez (Alavés) expects his goals after sóleo injury

The Alavés striker says the league break helped him recover from a calf injury and he’s ready for the month against Atlético.

Toni Martínez, Alavés’ forward, has used the league break to regain his best physical shape after a sóleo injury and is confident for “this month”. Speaking on Wednesday, the Murcian player brushed aside his scoring drought: “It’s not something that keeps me up at night,” and said his goals will come “the way they did last year.”

On his recovery, he stressed that the stoppage has meant three weeks focused on getting over the sóleo problem: “I’ve worked a lot, even on days off.” He also looked ahead to Atlético, the side next in LaLiga, arguing that at Mendizorroza the team must make the match “as uncomfortable as possible” to aim for the three points.

While he admitted that sitting in sixth provides a bit of calm, he underlined that the advantage can be lost and that the team can’t switch off. He highlighted Atlético’s attack, saying Sorloth is the forward who, for him, “makes the difference” while also noting the threat from the group of strikers.
