Unai Emery returns to Sevilla and praises feeling “loved”
Aston Villa won the XV Antonio Puerta Trophy at the Sánchez-Pizjuán; Emery said Sevilla made him “better” as coach and person.
Unai Emery returned to the Sánchez-Pizjuán with Aston Villa to take part in the XV Antonio Puerta Trophy, and the English side won the tournament after coming back from Isaac Romero’s opener. Before kickoff, the coach was honoured on the pitch and spoke with Sevilla’s official media.
Emery looked back on his spell in Nervión, when he won three consecutive UEFA Europa League titles, and said: “Sevilla taught me many things, made me a better coach, made me a better person.” He also explained that he hasn’t been able to come often because he has been working almost nonstop, and noted that his previous visit had been for “Reyes”.

The coach praised the turnout and atmosphere, saying he expected the stadium to be full and that it helped him “relive” great moments from his time there. He added that when results and the club’s collective work bring benefits, everything “explodes from the positive” and from joy.
Focus and mindset
Even if he called it a friendly, Emery said they still tried to give the game seriousness, particularly with players who were getting less minutes. He finished by stressing that, beyond the score, competing with the right mindset and living the occasion with the Antonio Puerta Trophy made the day special. Source: MARCA.
