Valencia held 2-2 by Racing at El Sardinero as Aguirre debuts

The Valencia of Javier Aguirre debut drew 2-2 at El Sardinero against Racing de Santander, with goals from Dani Raba (2’), Yassir Zabiri (32’), Iván Martín (47’) and David Otorbi (65’), and a late miss by Hugo Duro that kept it level.

Aguirre’s surprise move

According to Mundo Deportivo, Aguirre had been on the job for two and a half weeks and reshuffled his starting XI by bringing back Dani Raba (Valencia), after being sidelined under Carlos Corberán. Raba made an immediate impact, scoring early with a right-foot strike to beat Agirrezabala.

Racing grew into the game and Yassir Zabiri (Racing Santander) equalised thanks to a through ball by Iñigo Vicente. After the break, Iván Martín turned it around again two minutes into the second half with a first-time finish for 2-1.

Otorbi’s equaliser

Valencia kept pushing and at 65’, Otorbi marked the 2-2 after Javi Guerra’s chipped assist. Both sides had chances to win, but Hugo Duro’s clear late chance went begging.
