VAR cancels Espanyol's penalty at El Sardinero after a prior foul
Pablo Ramón's handball is wiped out by a previous foul by Roberto Fernández, and Racing get a direct free kick that Espanyol consider unfair.
Espanyol lost 2-1 at El Sardinero against Racing, and the match had a key decision in the 38th minute, with the score still 0-0. A cross from Àlex Calatrava hit the hand of Pablo Ramón inside the box, which could have been a penalty for the Espanyol side.
VAR Raúl Martín González alerted referee Jesús Gil Manzano to a previous foul by Roberto Fernández on Belocian. The referee first reviewed the handball on the pitch-side screen and confirmed it was punishable, but after several replays of the earlier play he opted for the foul, cancelled the penalty and awarded Racing a direct free kick. According to Mundo Deportivo, Espanyol protested on social media platform X about the decision.
