Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital after collapsing during training at Bayern München on Friday. Sky in Germany says his condition is stable.

In a statement, the club said the first-team coach had been watching the session involving the club’s second group. Kompany will undergo thorough examinations in hospital and remain under medical care, while his coaching staff handle training and matchday operations for the time being.

Sporting director Max Eberl stressed that Kompany’s health is their top priority and that the club will do everything possible to support a quick recovery. Manchester City, where Kompany was a former captain, also posted their well wishes.

Kompany had been dealing with a viral infection and missed his pre-match press conference ahead of the midweek Champions League game against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena, though he did take his place in the dugout for the 2-2 draw on Wednesday. Bayern face SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
