Vivian Rodríguez misses the World Cup with Athletic due to adductor injury
Athletic’s defender, sidelined since January, said the club asked him to keep playing while managing pain through the season.
Vivian Rodríguez, the Athletic Club centre-back, missed the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada due to a tear at the adductor insertion. As reported by MARCA, he said: "Se decidió no parar", adding that from January he kept carrying issues while the squad needed him.
He explained that the club asked him to play for months while less than fully fit, postponing full recovery until the summer. "Un jugador debe tener ambición y siempre la he tenido", he said, acknowledging the setback of not being at his best, though he understands Luis’s selection criteria.
The defender also said he received no specific reasons for the final call-up. "Luis also has made it clear many times that he won’t give explanations", he stated, though he said the tournament still left him “hope” to reach the next one.
