Will Lankshear shines for Middlesbrough as Tottenham regret the sale
He has 9 goals in 12 games and helped Middlesbrough beat Wolves 1-0. Spurs sold him in a deal worth up to £20m.
Will Lankshear, the Middlesbrough forward, has turned heads after Tottenham let him go: he scored his ninth goal in 12 games, heading home a cross from the left in a 1-0 win over Wolves, and has found the net in all but one of Boro’s home matches this season.
As BBC Sport reports, the 21-year-old joined Boro from Spurs on a five-year deal. Tottenham received an initial fee around £10m, with another £10m potentially due in add-ons.
The effect is painful for his old club. Tottenham remain in the Premier League relegation zone, while Middlesbrough are in the Championship’s automatic promotion spots. Ali Speechly, co-chair of the Women of the Lane supporters’ group, said many fans wonder why he was sold and argued it was likely driven by money, with a relatively high sell-on price.
