Yuri and Carvajal set to clash again as Getafe heads to San Mamés
After starting the 1-1 with Rayo, Carvajal is expected to start again at San Mamés, where he’ll face Yuri once more.
Getafe’s defender Daniel Carvajal made his comeback in the 1-1 draw at the Coliseum against Rayo last Monday, and Mundo Deportivo reports he is set to start again tomorrow at San Mamés against Athletic, where he will run into Yuri Berchiche once more.
The matchup isn’t new for Yuri: the last time they met, Carvajal caused a fracture in the proximal third of Yuri’s right fibula. That incident happened during Real Madrid–Athletic in the 2022-23 season, when referee Isidro Díaz de Mera booked Yuri and VAR’s Muñiz Ruiz didn’t intervene.
Since then they have faced each other only occasionally. Carvajal also missed two early games of 24-25 with a serious knee problem, and he wasn’t available for the 0-3 defeat in Bilbao last season. Yuri, meanwhile, missed the Bernabéu clash due to suspension from yellow-card accumulation.
