Zaid Romero suffers left-quadriceps strain; Getafe awaits tests
Getafe say Zaid Romero has a pinch in his left quadriceps and his progress will decide his availability ahead of the Conference opener.
Zaid Romero, of Getafe, was forced off in tears during the match against Barcelona after feeling a muscular pinch in the left quadriceps. The Argentine left the pitch before half-time, with Abdel Abqar taking his place after returning from injury.
After the game, Getafe coach José Bordalás said, “Zaid says he felt a pinch. We’ll need to wait for the tests.” On Sunday, the club confirmed that he “has suffered a pinch in the left quadriceps” and remains “pending diagnostic tests”, adding that “his recovery progress will determine his availability.”
Getafe face a demanding run with games on Thursdays and at weekends, so Romero’s possible absence would be a major setback around the Conference debut next week in Romania, against Universitatea de Craiova. Andrés García also had to come off at Camp Nou for an initial contracture, though Bordalás sounded more optimistic: “Andrés was very contracted. We don’t think there’s a problem, that’s what we believe.”
