Facundo Bernal, Betis: appeals after his red card vs Barcelona
Real Betis will file appeals this Tuesday over Bernal’s sending-off. The disciplinary committee meets Wednesday and could hand down up to four matches.
Real Betis will present appeals this Tuesday regarding the match report by referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea for Facundo Bernal’s red card against Barcelona. The report states that the Uruguayan midfielder grabbed an opponent by the neck and delivered two consecutive headbutts to the face when the ball was not in play.
The Disciplinary Committee meets Wednesday to decide Bernal’s sanction for the ninth round of LaLiga EA Sports. The club fears “several matches,” with a possible maximum of up to four. The incident came with the score at 2-3: Fermín was down on the ground just before Abde’s goal, and Lamine Yamal ended up clashing with Bernal after the intervention.
After the match, Manuel Pellegrini argued: "Lamine Yamal provoked it and Facundo responded… a referee with a footballing mindset wouldn’t punish a player for responding to an aggression." Bernal also apologized on social media, writing: "I should have controlled myself" and adding he would not let it happen again. Per MARCA, if the maximum is imposed he would miss Celta, Navalcarnero (Copa del Rey), Málaga and Elche, with the derby next on Saturday, November 21.
