Guruzeta eyes Europe with Athletic: “We want three points vs Rayo”

The Athletic forward Guruzeta returns to LaLiga after the break with the intention of fighting for Europe and for a win vs Rayo Vallecano: “We have to start winning games. We want Europe and the whole dressing room is aware of that.”

In an interview with COPE Bilbao, he added that the squad is on track to make a strong campaign and that the team still has to “fine-tune Edin’s idea,” which “will be shown on the pitch”.

Rivalry and a new workload

Asked about the differences between Ernesto Valverde and Edin Terzic, he said the players had “very clear” weekly work under Ernesto, while with the new coach “every day are new exercises with lots of intensity,” even if “the message was just as clear”.

He also talked about his rivalry with Iñaki Williams for the starting spot: “Since I came back to Athletic, the option of Iñaki as a forward has always been there.” He finished by backing his friend Unai Simón for best goalkeeper in the world: “He deserves it, and every time he plays it shows,” as reported by MARCA.
