Hansi Flick sketches Barcelona’s XI for Betis clash in Seville
Betis-Barça kicks off a three-game run in nine days: Flick expects a full-strength XI, with only measured rotations.
Hansi Flick said on Thursday that Betis-Barça is the opener of a three-match run of high-demand fixtures for Barcelona over the next nine days, and that’s why he’ll line up with a fully-fledged starting XI in Seville. The coach stressed how vital the game is, but also pointed to controlled changes to manage minutes.
Rotations, not a wholesale overhaul
Flick does not intend to pick a team prioritising the upcoming PSG-Barça next week. With the squad given time to recover since Tuesday, the plan is that any changes won’t be massive.
Among the alterations being considered, Jules Koundé and Xavi could return to the full-back spots, while Eric García may go back to the centre of the defence to partner Pau Cubarsí—where he already played against Getafe.
Midfield and attack options
In midfield, Flick has more choices with Rodri and Fermín López, alongside Lamine Yamal, who is set to start on the right wing. In the battle between Dani Olmo and Fermín, the Spaniard has the edge to repeat because Olmo has started the last two games, while Fermín did not begin against Getafe.
Up front, Yamal is expected on the right and Adeyemi could take the other flank. Gabriel Jesús would also be in the mix after a positive showing versus Getafe. Flick added that Gavi could play a prominent role against his former club, and also has Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha in the squad, even if they’re not guaranteed starters.
