Man City facing title and trophy stripping over Premier League financial breaches
Carragher calls for City to be stripped of titles and trophies; the club denies the ruling and has until Oct 2 to appeal.
Manchester City are at the center of an extreme sanctions scenario after an independent commission found them guilty of serious breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009/10 and 2017/18, a stretch that includes three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three League Cups and one Community Shield. Jamie Carragher has urged that the club be stripped of those honours.
Sanctions will be addressed in a further hearing with the independent commission, while City—who deny the breaches—have confirmed they will appeal. The club has until Friday, October 2 to lodge it.
Possible outcomes range from points deductions and fines to transfer bans and even expulsion from the Premier League. If titles and trophies are removed, it would affect seasons in which City finished top, including the 2012 league win that came after pipping Manchester United on the final day, decided by Sergio Agüero’s late winner.
