Broadcast snag: Hearts vs Real Sociedad won't be shown live
The first leg of Hearts-Real Sociedad women’s clash in the Women’s Europe Cup won’t be televised; the return in Zubieta on Sept 30 is expected to be.
Real Sociedad’s women’s team have turned their focus to the new Women’s Europe Cup after dropping out of the Champions League qualifying round against Chelsea. The competition is a straight knockout format and the Basque side begin their campaign in Round 2, taking on Hearts from Scotland—essentially the equivalent of a round of 32.
No TV for the first leg
As Mundo Deportivo reports, there’s a major blow for fans: the first leg, scheduled for Wednesday 23 September in Scotland, is not expected to be shown on TV “in principle”.
The newspaper adds that Real Sociedad warned the media—clearly frustrated—that Hearts had told them they would not broadcast the match from their side. Without the home club’s signal, it would be difficult for broadcasters in Spain (or elsewhere) to cover the tie, and for now there’s no indication that a Scottish broadcaster has purchased the rights either.
Return leg at Zubieta on track
The return leg is not in doubt. The match at Zubieta on the 30th is set to be televised normally, either via the club’s official channel (txuri urdin) or through a TV broadcaster.
It’s a historic matchup for both clubs—though the first leg will be the awkward one for viewers.
