Álvaro Arbeloa takes heat as Ipswich roar back to beat Fulham

Ipswich equalised in the 89th and won at 90+2; Fulham extend a winless run to six games.

Ipswich sent Álvaro Arbeloa into a tough Premier League night with a dramatic late comeback against Fulham. Fulham looked close to a landmark first win after Ryan Sessegnon struck in the 55th minute, but the visitors collapsed: Abdoul Ouattara levelled with a thunderbolt from 30 yards in the 89th, and Dara O’Shea headed in Jack Clarke’s free-kick in the second minute of stoppage time.

The Guardian links the pressure talk to Arbeloa’s reaction afterwards, where he rejected claims he can’t handle scrutiny. “I never worry about my position”, he said, adding: “Pressure is something that is important for me and I like it.” He also put the focus on points for his team: “It’s just six games, but it is true we need points.”

The loss made it four league defeats for Fulham this season, and it underlined another trend: they have conceded after 75 minutes versus Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Manchester United and now Ipswich. With Tottenham earning a point at Manchester United, Fulham were pushed down to the bottom.

Winner in stoppage time

Gary O’Neil praised the finishing push after a third league win, with substitutes Chuba Akpom and Clarke having an impact in the finale. “Proud of the players and proud of the way we finished the game,” he said. Fulham now turns to Saturday’s trip to Hull City.
